Manali to Leh

The 472 km overland journey is open for just three months in a year i.e. from June to end of September. The jeep safaru trip from Manali to Leh can be extended to Nubra valley across Khardongla pass, the highest motorable road in the world or to Srinagar after crossing Zojila Pass. The Manali to Leh drive can be completed in two days with an overnight stay at Serchu or Darcha. Another option is to drive to Leh via Tsokar and Tsomoriri Lake. For undertaking this tour you will have to arrange your tour through tour operator from Leh, who can send you a permit to enter Tsomoriri Lake with a local taxi. The journey starts from Manali driving through the lush green and foggy hills offering a splendid view of Manali on the way.

Rohtang Pass (3980 m)

The countryside surprisingly changes into the rugged brown of the rain shadow area of Lahaul. The landscape converts into naked desert after crossing a few villages of Lahul with prayer flags on their roofs. You will start ascending Baralacha Pass and you can see unexpectedly sprawling plain areas of Serhcu where you will spend a night in tented Camp. Further, there are many small passes before you cross Taklang La pass Taglangla at 5330m to reach Rumtse and Gya village. An hour drive from Runtse takes you to Upshi where you cross the Indus River. Enter Indus valley with dotted villages on its bank and beautiful monasteries built on hillside. You journey finishes at Leh making the drive a lifetime's experience.

Pangong Lake

The Pangong Lake is 160 km from Leh, with spectacular view of the colorful mountains and Changla pass. The scenic view of vibrant mountains throughout the journey makes your trip a memorable one.

The drive begins with photogenic view of Thiksey monastery, famous for its architectural similarities with Potala palace of Lhasa. The monastery covers an entire mountain ridge. Beyond this village, you will drive towards Changla pass, leaving the Leh Manali road on your right hand side. The long easy ascent to takes you to Changla pass through its winding roads passing through Sakti Village. Stop at the Changla Pass for a quick photograph and drive down to the village of Tangtse, where you can enjoy a cup of tea. Laeaving Tangtse for Pangong you pass through many small villages of Changthang and finally you can have a sudden view of the lake. The Pangong Lake is spectacular, surrounded by multicolored mountains and its reflection makes the lake beautiful. The color of the lake changes shades throughout the day. The division of lake between India and China makes it different from the other Lake. Therefore you are allowed to go upto Spangmik only.

Tsomoriri Lake

The journey to Tsomoriri Lake is about 240 kms and passes through Shey, Thiksey, Upshi and many other small villages along the Indus River. The hot spring at Chumathang (3965 m) comes after driving for around 100 kms. This hot spring Resort where you can bath in hot spring water, which Ladakhisuses for healing, is a good resting point. After an hour's drive you will cross Maya bridge and drive upto Tsomoriri (4555 m) through Puga village along a bumpy road. Puga is known for its sulphur and borax deposits. Full day walking tour of Tsomoriri Lake includes a visit to the famous Karzok monastery and Nomad Camp above the village.

The Tsomoriri is the starting point for trekking to Spiti through its traditional route through Parang La (5580m) The "Changpas" (nomadic people), have trade relation with Spiti. The Area is rich in wildlife including the "Kyang" (wild ass), red fox and the rare, highly endangered, snow leopard. Black necked cranes and geese flock to the lakeside for breeding during the summer months. There are options to drive to Manali via Tsokar Lake and Serchu.

Nubra Valley

Nubra is located in the north of Leh around 120 kms across the Khardong La (18,380ft), Nubra means "Ldumra" which used to be an important station on the famous silk route leading from Leh to Kashgar through the two passes of Saser and Karakoram. The main attractions of this area are the Bactarian Camels (Double Humped Camels), Khardung-La Pass (world's highest motorable road at 18,380 feet) and the monasteries like Deskit and Samstaling.

The drive to Nubra Valley leads through Khardung-La (18380 ft), which is about 39 kms from Leh. Camel Safari can be organized from Deskit to Hundar Village for 2 hours. This tour can be extended for 2 nights / 3 days by visiting Panamik village and Sumur.

ladakh honeymoon tours

Cradled in the lap of the majestic Himalayas, ladakh is the arguably most beautiful place in the world. Kalhan, the greatest historian of India refers to ladakh in the following words:

The greatest Sanskrit poet Kalidasa writes about the valley:
"The place is more beautiful than the heaven and is the benefactor of supreme bliss and happiness. It seems to me that I am taking a bath in the lake of nectar here."After reading these lines, no one should be left with any doubt about the fact that ladakh is the most beautiful place in the world.ladakh is the only region of India to have a historical record of its distant past. Such is not the case with the other parts of India which led to the 11th century, the Islamic scholar Alberuni to remark that Indians lack a sense of history.

According to a legend, the great sage Kashyap drained a lake and the Brahmins then inhabited it. The place came to be known as ladakh. A land of turbulent past and present, the missionaries of Emperor Ashoka introduced the Buddhism in the region. The religion flourished under the rule of Kushan in 2nd Century. However, Hinduism continued to be the dominant religion of the region for many centuries. In the 7th Century, Durlabhavarrdhana founded the Karkota dynasty, which was replaced by Utpalas in 855 AD, which were succeeded by the Tantrins, Yaskaras, Guptas abd Loharas ruled respectively. The first Muslim who reigned ladakh was Shams-ud-Din who replaced the last Hindu king, Udiana Deva in 1346. Moghul emperor Akbar conquered it in 1586 and thus ladakh became a part of his vast empire.

1757 saw the victory of Ahmed Shah Durrani and ladakh went out to Pakistan until 1819, when Ranjit Singh won it again to annex it to his Sikh empire. In 1846, the British defeated the Sikhs and sold it to Ghulab Singh of Jammu for Rs 7.5 million under the Treaty of Amritsar and gave him the status of an independent princely ruler of ladakh. He conquered Ladakh and added it to his dominion. Maharaja Ghulab Singh died in 1857 and was succeeded by Maharaja Rambir Singh. Maharaja Partab Singh and Maharaja Hari Singh ruled over ladakh in succession.

The India-Pakistan partition took place during the reign of Hari Singh in 1947 and the rulers of princely states were given the choice to freely accede to either India or Pakistan or to remain independent. However, since the Maharaja of ladakh was a Hindu, he chose to join India despite the majority of the Muslim population in his dominion. However, since then there have been controversies over the decision and Pakistan claims that the decision was partial and the region should be a part of its dominion.

Nubra Valley is popularly known as Ldorma (LUDMRA) or the Valley of Flowers. It is situated to the North of Ladakh between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of the Himalayas. pangong lake
After an early breakfast we leave for Pangong Lake through Changla pass (5486 Mtrs). Pangong lake, situated at 14,000 feet (4,267 m) is a long narrow basin of inland drainage, hardly six to seven kilometres at its widest point and over 130km long . The picturesque lake is bisected by the international border between India and China. We spend the night on the shores of this beautiful Lake with the Milky Way to keep us company. Leh
Nubra Valley – Ladakh Nubra Valley is one of the MUST VISIT places in Ladakh especially if you are visiting for the first time. Nubra Valley is among the sub-districts in Ladakh, located in North East side having Diskit Village as the its main headquarters. Diskit is situated about 120 odd KMs from Leh town which is the main capital of Ladakh district. The Shyok river, a tributary of Indus river, meets the Nubra or Siachen river to form a large valley that separates the Ladakh and Karakorum Ranges. The ultra wide landscapes, humongous mountain faces, lovely trails, wide variety of colors and musical Shyok river flowing midst the valley will take your breath away at first sight. Since, it is near to the Line of Actual Control, one need to get Inner Line Permit to visit Nubra Valley. You can get more details on Inner Line Permits here: Inner Line Permits for Leh – Ladakh. The major attraction of a trip to Nubra Valley is going over the so called or hyped, highest motorable road, Khardung La Pass Being at lower altitude than Leh at an average altitude of 10000 Feet or 3048 Mtrs, Nubra Valley is an ideal place to fit into the acclimatization schedule of your Ladakh trip once you reach Leh. Climbing to very high altitude of Khardung La from Leh and then sleeping at low altitude of Nubra Valley DOES HELP tremendously in acclimatization. Thus, apart from the magnificent vistas on offer, Nubra Valley has a hidden advantage with respect to acclimatization as well which will eventually help your trip be more successful. No wonder, if you are missing on this part of Ladakh on your trip, you are almost missing out on the heart of the Ladakh trip. Chadar Trek
Zanskar is located at a very high altitude in Jammu and ladakh. It is one of the best trekking destinations around the world. In Winter, Zanskar river freezes up, and get converted into an amazing adventures trek called Chadar-The Frozen River Trek.

leh packages with airfare

Khillonmarg is another beautiful senic beauty and a favourate tourist destination . the famour liddar valley is promintnt feature .
The traditional name for the Zanskar Trek is Chadar Trek as the river becomes a snow sheet during winters due to heavy snowfall. It boasts of some of the lowest temperatures making it a challenging trek for the adventurers. The most isolated and inaccessible for nearly eight months in a year due to heavy snowfall resulting in closure of all the access passes; Zanskar has the distinction of being the least interfered with microcosms of Ladakh, and thus one of the last few surviving cultural satellites of Tibet. This geographical isolation together with the esoteric nature of Buddhism practiced here has enabled its ten thousand inhabitants to preserve and perpetuate their cultural identity.

Leh – Khardung La Pass (40 KMs) – Khardung Village (34 KMs) – Khalsar (23 KMs) – Diskit (19 KMs) = 116 KMs You can cover Diskit & Hunder on the first day to Nubra Valley from Leh irrespective of the fact where you are staying between these two places. Then, you can plan to cover Sumur & Panamik while you are returning from Nubra Valley. So, if you are one of those who prefer relaxing vacation and do not want to rush through places then, I will suggest make a three day trip to Nubra Valley. Of course, I assume your body has been acclimatized properly by staying for couple of nights in Leh before attempting to climb Khardung La pass and come over to Nubra Valley. If you are short on time then you can just make a two day trip covering Diskit, Hunder, Sumur and Panamik on the flow of travel to and from Leh. Do not forget to refill petrol/diesel at Leh petrol pump as there used to be a fuel pump at Diskit but never seen that in working conditions. So, better tank up at Leh only before making a dash out to Nubra Valley. Pangong lake tours
